Alaska Grown: Farms, Markets & Local Food

Southcentral Alaska has a real local agricultural culture, centered strongly in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. During the growing season you can visit working farms, shop farm stands and farmers markets, pick vegetables yourself where it's offered, and bring what you find back to Cozihaus to cook.

Who this suits

Guests who enjoy cooking, farmers markets, local food, and agriculture — families, photographers, and anyone drawn to slower, local travel rather than conventional sightseeing.

A plan that works

  1. Pair a Palmer/Mat-Su outing with Moonstone Farm or Pyrah's Pioneer Peak Farm, then bring Alaska-grown ingredients back to cook at Cozihaus.
  2. From Cozihaus in Spenard, Grow North Farm and Anchorage's farmers markets are the closer version of the same idea.
  3. When it's running, the Alaska State Fair concentrates a lot of this same agricultural identity — crops, producers, and Alaska-grown food — in one place.
  4. This is a starting point, not a directory. Ask us for a current recommendation that fits your day.

Drive and timing, honestly

  • This is a Mat-Su Valley and Anchorage story together, not one destination — the right base depends on which farm or market you're heading toward. See the individual farm and market guides for specifics.

What we won’t promise

  • We cannot promise a particular crop, berry availability, or U-Pick availability.
  • We cannot promise specific vendors, exact harvest timing, or exact operating hours without checking first.
  • Agricultural availability is seasonal and highly variable — what's ready changes through the summer.

  • This collection currently covers Moonstone Farm, Pyrah's Pioneer Peak Farm, Grow North Farm, and the Alaska State Fair — a starting set, not the full picture of Valley and Anchorage agriculture.
  • Ask us about farmers markets directly — Wasilla, Palmer, Spenard, and Anchorage all have their own, and we can point you toward whichever fits your day.
