Gold Mint Trail
Gold Mint Trail follows the Little Susitna River roughly 16 miles round trip toward the Mint Glacier valley — gentle grade through the lower and middle valley, steeper toward the upper valley. Any point along the route is a legitimate turnaround, not just the far end; the lower valley also supports biking and, in winter, skiing.
Who this suits
Guests who want a long valley walk with a flexible turnaround — good for a big day out, or a shorter out-and-back for guests who want less. Kept explicitly distinct from Reed Lakes Trail and April Bowl, Hatcher Pass's own established hikes.
A plan that works
- Set the turnaround expectation up front — any point on the trail is legitimate; a guest doesn't need to reach the glacier valley to have a good day.
- Lower valley supports biking and winter skiing — mention if relevant to the guest.
Drive and timing, honestly
- Hatcher Pass area, along Archangel Road; see the Hatcher Pass guide for the destination-level framing. No drive time is separately stated.
- Full day for the longer objective; flexible for a shorter turnaround.

Getting around Hatcher Pass
Hatcher Pass Road is the main corridor through the area. Summit Lake and April Bowl sit close together higher in the pass, while Reed Lakes is reached from the Archangel Road side. Independence Mine makes a useful central reference point.
