Russian Lakes Trail System
Russian Lakes Trail System is the full route beyond the short Russian River Falls walk — roughly 21.8 miles one way with about 1,100 feet of total gain, easy-to-moderate grade but a long distance, continuing past the falls to Lower and Upper Russian Lake and Forest Service cabins. The first roughly 3 miles are often crowded with anglers during salmon season. This is deliberately kept separate from the short falls walk (see the Russian River guide) — a separate, more demanding hike, not an extension of it.
Who this suits
Hikers who want a genuine long-distance Kenai Peninsula trail beyond the popular falls walk — good for a full day or an overnight to the cabins, for guests who understand this is a much bigger commitment than the falls access alone.
