Resurrection Pass System
Resurrection Pass is Cooper Landing's flagship backcountry route system — roughly 38 to 39 miles connecting Cooper Landing to Hope, with north and south trailheads, a real cabin and campsite network, and two named connector routes (Devil's Creek, Summit Creek). "Doing Resurrection Pass" does not have to mean the full traverse: it supports a short day-hike from either end, a staged Juneau Falls day-hike objective from the south/Bean Creek side, Juneau Lake or Swan Lake as an overnight without the full commitment, or a longer overnight section hiked out the way you came in. Only experienced backpackers with a shuttle plan should attempt the complete end-to-end crossing.

Who this suits
A wide range of commitment levels, which is the whole point of this system. Casual guests get real value from a short day-hike toward either trailhead, or the staged Juneau Falls objective. Guests with more time can reach Juneau Lake or Swan Lake for an overnight without the full traverse. Only experienced backpackers with a shuttle plan should attempt the complete crossing.
A plan that works
- Start by establishing scale — "doing Resurrection Pass" can mean a two-hour day-hike or a multi-day backcountry crossing, and guests should never be left assuming it's only the latter.
- Shorter day objective: hike in from either trailhead as far as time and ability allow, then turn around. From the south/Bean Creek access, Juneau Falls is a genuine staged day-hike objective in its own right.
- Lake/cabin objective: the south end supports shorter objectives like Juneau Lake and Swan Lake, reachable without the full traverse — good for an overnight without the full commitment.
- Overnight section: guests with two days can hike partway in, stay at a cabin or campsite (reservations apply), and hike back out the way they came, without needing a shuttle.
- Full traverse: the complete crossing is a serious, multi-day undertaking requiring a shuttle or two vehicles between trailheads — recommend this only to guests who are already experienced backpackers.
- This system supports hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking in different contexts — ask which the guest actually wants rather than assuming hiking by default.
Drive and timing, honestly
- Resurrection Pass is a Cooper Landing / interior Kenai Peninsula destination — a genuine day trip or the start of a backcountry trip from either property; see the Cooper Landing guide for the destination-level framing. No drive time is stated — none has been measured.
- A full traverse requires a shuttle or two vehicles between the north and south trailheads; a day-hike or lake/cabin objective from a single trailhead does not.
What we won’t promise
- We cannot promise current cabin or campsite availability — Forest Service cabins along this route require reservations, and availability changes constantly.
- We cannot promise current trail, bridge, or creek-crossing conditions at the Devil's Creek or Summit Creek connectors, or anywhere along the main route.
- We will not state that hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking are all suitable everywhere on this system without checking current, authoritative access rules first.
- We will not describe the full traverse as approachable for a casual guest — it is a serious multi-day commitment.
Practical notes
- You do not need to hike the whole system to enjoy it — a day-hike from either trailhead, including Juneau Falls, is a completely legitimate way to experience Resurrection Pass.
- If cabins are part of the plan, check current reservation availability together — they book up.
