Government Peak / Blueberry Knoll

From the Government Peak Recreation Area, guests can choose Blueberry Knoll — a gentler roughly 1.5-mile walk with a real payoff — or the steeper Government Peak summit via the Race Trail, roughly 3.5 miles, called one of the more rewarding summit views in the Mat-Su Valley. The recreation area is bigger than these two hikes alone: it's also a genuine regional mountain-biking destination (real singletrack, plus dedicated fat-tire loops) and, in winter, a groomed Nordic ski area maintained by the local ski club.

A plan that works

For a hiking guest, ask which of the two objectives fits — Blueberry Knoll (easier) or Government Peak via the Race Trail (steeper, bigger summit view).
For a mountain-biking guest, mention this is a real, dedicated regional riding destination in its own right, not just a hiking area that happens to allow bikes.
Check current GPRA parking/facility status (a Mat-Su Borough parking pass is required) before recommending either activity.

Drive and timing, honestly

Government Peak Recreation Area, near Palmer. No drive time is stated — none has been measured from either property.
Blueberry Knoll: a couple of hours. Government Peak: half day. Mountain biking: flexible, from an hour of singletrack to a half day.
